  1. The Atacama Crossing, Chile

Four 155-mile desert races, including Antarctica, the Gobi and Sahara are what constitute this four desert challenge held in October called the Atacama Crossing. A seven-day race, which will really put your endurance to the test, yet reward you with the most beautiful scenery you can have while your heart is pumping hard.

2. Marathon of the Midnight Sun, Norway

One of the most northerly marathons in the world, located up in Tromso in the Arctic Circle, the race takes advantage of the long daylight hours throughout June by flagging off at 8pm while the sun is hanging low in the sky. The landscape feels like a scene out of the movies, entering into another world of crimson sky.

3. Table Mountain Crossing, South Africa

4. Fujisan Marathon, Japan

There are many elements of a marathon that can ease you through the painful 42km. One of them is having a beautiful setting to help you forget about your exhaustion. The Fujisan Marathon is held in November each year and located only a couple of hours outside Tokyo. Apart from the iconic Mount Fuji, runners will also pass by the deep blue lakes and the equally iconic autumnally coloured trees along the route.
