Located in the heart of Dubai, the Dubai Mall holds the record as the world’s largest shopping mall in terms of area covered, with a size spanning more than 50 football fields! With a total floor area of 5.9 million sq ft., the mall has over 1,200 retail outlets and more than 200 food and beverage stores. In fact, the mall is currently undergoing further expansion plans to increase the area by another 1 million sq ft.! The Dubai Mall is said to be the most visited building on the planet, with more than 80 million visitors in 2014 alone.

The first major attraction in the mall is the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. Named the world’s largest indoor aquarium in the Guinness Book of World Records 2010, it is home to more than 33,000 aquatic animals from over 200 species. Visitors are able to participate in several activities in the aquarium such as:

  1. Behind-the-scenes Tour: Venture into departments that help manage an aquarium on a daily basis such as its food preparation facility, quarantine area, and laboratory. Observe how the animals aquatic animals are fed and cared for, and how the aquarium is cleaned.
  2. Diving with Sharks: The aquarium not only provides visitors an opportunity to dive with sharks in public, but also offers specialty diving activities for certified participants.

Dubai Mall is also home to two theme parks, SEGA Republic and KidZania. Firstly, SEGA Republic is a 76,000 sq ft. park featuring 16 attractions with more than 170 games. From new-age virtual reality experiences to traditional amusement park rides, SEGA Republic was built in association with the Japan-based game developer SEGA Corporation to feature the company’s renowned games. On the other hand, KidZania is a educational entertainment centre with fully functional buildings, streets, and vehicles, that allows kids to role-play adults in real life. If the previously mentioned activities were not enough to keep you entertained, there is an Olympic-size ice rink in the Dubai Mall. Opened in 1992 at Bur Dubai, the heart of the city’s business and heritage districts, BurJuman Centre was one of Dubai’s very first major shopping malls that set new standards for the city’s retail scene. With more than 320 shops, offering a healthy mix of both luxury fashion labels popular multinational brands, the mall is the height of shopping luxury the city. Ibn Battuta Mall

Ibn Battuta Mall is the world’s largest themed shopping mall, with six main theme courts, namely Egypt, India, China, Andalusia, Persia and Tunisia. The mall was designed with the adventurer extraordinaire Ibn Battuta in mind, who in June 1335, at a tender age of 21 years old, travelled to these six foreign land over a span of 24 years. As such, in a way, Ibn Battuta Mall combines the use of history, culture, and storytelling, to create a beautiful and scenic shopping experience for visitors. Spanning over 7 million sq ft., Ibn Battuta holds more than 1,000 stores and attractions on a single level, making it one of the must-see places in Dubai.
